About the author

Matthew Hoy

A graduate of Helix High School in La Mesa, Calif., Matt attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo where he graduated in 1994 with a degree in Journalism. He spent 15 years in daily newspapers, starting at The Lompoc Record, The Daily World (Aberdeen, Wash.), The North County Times (Escondido, Calif.), and culminating in a stint at The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Matthew began his commentary career with the creation of Hoystory.com. The name came from his father, a high school teacher of more than 30 years who taught "U.S. Hoystory"; like history, only better.
Matthew's criticisms of New York Times columnist Paul Krugman's writing on politics and the economy was a must-read.
Matthew's work was referenced at National Review's "The Corner," The Rocky Mountain News, The Washington Post, Andrew Sullivan's Daily Dish, Instapundit.com, and Lucianne.com
Matthew's exposure of a PolitiFact fact-check on a promise made by House Speaker GOP Rep. John Boehner appeared first at his blog and was one of the primary inspirations for his book "Fact-Checking Frauds."

In the late 20-teens, Matthew created the site Restricted Arms, designed to help first-time gun buyers in deep blue states navigate the often-convoluted process of legally purchasing a gun.
  • Detailed instructions based upon detailed research was designed to help readers navigate the gun-buying process in California, Hawaii, New York and New Jersey.
  • Original reporting and research on draconian gun laws across the country, including California's one-of-a-kind ammunition background check law and its effect on gun owners.
  • Regular appearances on Dave Congalton's Home Town Radio on 920KVEC-AM as the resident "gun guy."

Whether it's audio, video, photography or the written word, Matthew can churn out intelligent, high-quality products that represent strongly held convictions, not the latest trend.
Likely the best book about fact-checking ever written.
